Stephen Curry will miss his third straight game Saturday against Houston with a left ankle injury

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Stephen Curry will miss a third straight game for the Golden State Warriors on Saturday in Houston with a left ankle injury, but returned to practice on Friday.

He was re-evaluated earlier in the day and the Warriors’ medical staff determined the NBA career 3-point leader was in good shape and was cleared to participate, the team said.

Curry is scheduled to be re-evaluated Sunday before Golden State’s game Monday against Washington. He was was injured during the loss against the Los Angeles Clippers. on Sunday evening. Curry, 36, who is entering his 16th season, underwent an MRI after the game that showed no structural damage and revealed a sprained left fibula.

After Wednesday’s home win against New Orleans, Curry said he was “feeling better” when he left the locker room.

Curry was out for good with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter a 112-104 loss.

He briefly returned to the game with 8:08 left and was along a key line guarded by Kris Dunn when he cut away from Dunn toward the baseline and re-injured his ankle when it appeared to roll to the outside. It happened near the end of the Golden State bench, and he limped into the tunnel that leads to the locker room.

It was at the 2:43 mark of the third quarter when Curry initially hobbled to the bench and sat out the rest of the period.

The two-time MVP has dealt with regular ankle problems in both legs.

Also on Friday, guard De’Anthony Melton re-evaluated a strained lower back and will also sit out a third straight game on Saturday and is scheduled to be re-evaluated in a week.
