Sekhune FC footballer released on R20,000 bail after arrest for fatal crash

JOHANNESBURG. Sekhune United footballer Sean Mogaila has been released on R20 000 bail following his arrest on Wednesday.

Mogail was charged with first degree murder, reckless and negligent driving and fleeing the scene.

All the charges relate to a crash involving his luxury car and a car carrying nine-year-old Homolemo Mawimbela, her mother Keo and a 13-year-old neighbour.

Unfortunately, Homolemo lost her life during the incident.

During Friday’s hearing, the state did not object to Mogaila’s release on bail.

His defense team pushed for a lower bail amount, citing his limited income.

His lawyer, Octavius Magunda, says Mogaila earns 40,000 rand a month with significant financial obligations, including a monthly BMW payment of 8,500 rand, a security deposit of 13,500 rand and support for his family.

Magistrate Hlengiwe Malevu: “The state must conduct further investigation, there are still unfinished video recordings, results of the post-mortem examination and the medical report.”

The case was postponed to February 4, 2025 for further investigation and provision of medical reports.
