A 57-year-old man was arrested after a standoff early Friday morning in west-central Topeka.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A man was behind bars in the Shawnee County Jail after he was arrested early Friday following a standoff in west-central Topeka, authorities said.

The man arrested, identified as Marvin L Park, 57, of Topeka, was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. Friday after a standoff in the 1500 block of SW Shunga Drive. The location on SW Shunga Drive was west of Washburn Avenue.

Authorities said the incident began around 5 p.m. Thursday when officers responded to a reported crash in the area of ​​the Stormont Vail Events Center, located near SW 19th Street and Topeka Boulevard.

Officers were then led to the 1500 block of SW Shunga Drive — about a mile south and west of the Stormont Vail Events Center — where one person from the crash was inside a residence, police officials said.

While police were investigating the incident, someone fired shots from inside the residence, officials said.

No casualties have been reported.

The standoff continued into Thursday evening before Park was taken into custody early Friday.

Authorities said Park was booked into the Shawnee County Jail at 6:50 a.m. Friday on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; criminal threat; battery; the driver’s duty to report an accident; and interfering with the activities of a law enforcement officer.

As of Friday morning, Park was being held without bond in the Shawnee County Jail.

Topeka police officials said that as of Friday morning, they were not looking for other people and that the department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation was continuing to investigate the incident.
