In an effort to improve the safety and well-being of its users, TikTok has published its Community Guidelines Compliance Report for Q2 2024.

The report provided transparency regarding content and accounts which have been removed from the platform, revealing that over 614,000 videos from SA-based accounts have been removed from the platform, Cape {town}, &c reports

The 614,000 videos removed represent just 0.6% of the total number of videos uploaded in South Africa.

Of the banned videos, 98.7% were removed before users of the platform reported the content or the account, and 88.4% of videos that did not meet the Community Guidelines were removed within 24 hours.

In addition, the report revealed that 143,998 accounts were banned outright for violating the Community Guidelines.

In June alone, 178 million videos were deleted worldwide, 144 million of which were automatically deleted.

“Our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. We prioritize safety, well-being and integrity so that our community can freely create, connect and have fun,” the group said.

In addition, TikTok prohibits content that may harm the psychological, physical health or development of young people. Accounts that seriously violate this policy or involve sexual offenses against minors will be banned along with any linked accounts. TikTok reports cases of sexual abuse or exploitation of youth to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and will notify law enforcement if there is a real imminent threat to life or risk of serious injury.

One user, @shaneyyricch, shared on X that the video had been permanently removed from TikTok after reaching 1.7 million views due to “hate speech”.
