Quality jumps are once again the currency of choice for weekend race fans and this time Wetherby comes out on top.

West Yorkshire offers a strong seven-race card on Saturday afternoon, headlined by the 2.58 Charlie Hall Chase, the first of Britain’s remaining major chasing prizes.

The ITV Racing team is set to host five live races from Weatherby on Saturday, and we’ve got a selection for each of these ground offerings.

Selections

1.15 Weatherby – Teddy

Seven runners have been announced for this Grade 3 handicap chase and many of them come here without the aid of a recent run. This is not the case for Nigel Twiston-Davies Teddywho scored a fortnight ago at Attoxeter (2m, good to soft) on his entry into the chase. He jumped well, traveled well and won well in the end, coming clear of a rival who had himself pushed the next winner all the way at the Midlands venue earlier. Tadley is 5lbs higher this time but Jamie Brace more than makes up for it in the table with his claim and it could be more.

1.50 Weatherby – Sweet fantasy

Nicky Henderson’s mare Lucia is clearly rated for this Listed event and ran well in stronger company back in the spring but Sweet fantasy is a worthy alternative. James Owen is doing well, and this daughter of Wootton Bassett went 2-2 herself last season in the timber battle before a trio of Flat runs and the summer break. It needs improvement but she is eligible to step forward again and has champion jockey Harry Cobden for company.

2.22 Weatherby – Sandor Clegane

Likeable veteran Dashel Drasher spots the 6lb field in the Grade 2 competition and although he has to put in his usual gutsy effort, the Irish raider Sandor Clegane is a very viable alternative for Paul Nolan. He was third in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham in 2023 and went head-to-head with excellent competition last term as a rookie. The first cheekbones unfold here and he can go well.

2.58 Weatherby – Bravemansgame

Bravemansgame 12 months ago he looked set to win this race for the second year in a row, but a last-ditch mistake proved costly and he settled for second. He then raced four more times, all at Grade One, and finished the season without a win for the first time as a jumper. Some might want to start writing him off, but not Paul Nicholls, the inmate Ditcheat usually gets pretty fresh, so this might be the best time to catch him.

3.32 Weatherby – Goblet of Fire

This task is more difficult than one Goblet of Fire was held at Southwell 10 days ago, but four-year-old Nicky Henderson left the impression that he is set to improve this season. It looked like he was headed for the win, but Forget The Way broke away from the pack and challenged. James Bowen’s partner relished the battle and really took the last final hurdle at full speed. He is now working on progress and a 6lb higher estimate is fair.
