Young Thug pleads guilty in YSL court, will serve probation

The trial of Atlanta rapper Young Thug ended in a guilty plea. At the end of a court hearing Thursday, the 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, changed his plea in the RICO case to guilty and no contest to multiple gang, gun and drug charges.

After a dramatic turn of events in what has become Georgia’s longest criminal trial, Williams is being sent home. State attorneys had sought a sentence of up to 45 years — 25 in prison and 20 on probation — but Fulton County District Judge Page Reese Whitaker imposed a sentence that allowed Williams to be released immediately. “The total sentence is 40 years, the first 5 years in prison, but substituted for the time you have already served,” she said during the hearing.

Williams has been in custody for more than two years since he was indicted in 2022. He will serve 15 years of probation, as well as 20 years in prison, which may be served in custody depending on the term of probation. He is also required to stay out of the metro Atlanta area for the first 10 years of his probation, except under certain guidelines, which include returning to the city to make a live public presentation against gang and child abuse at a school or school. public organization several times a year. Days before Thursday’s hearing, three of Williams’ co-defendants pleaded guilty in deals with prosecutors.
