JD Vance on Joe Rogan's podcast suggests teens 'trans' for college benefits, says Trump can rally 'regular gays'

Ohio Senator and Republican Vice Presidential Candidate J. D. Vance argued that social pressures and virtue signaling among parents may cause adolescents to tend to self-identify as transgender to improve their chances of acceptance Ivy League universities
“If you’re a middle-class or upper-middle-class white parent,” he said, “and all you care about is getting your kid into Harvard or Yale … the DEI bureaucracy is the only way these people can take participation in the DEI bureaucracy in this country should be trans.”
During the podcast, Vance argued that some parents may be swayed by a desire to align themselves with progressive ideals, which he said could lead them to view gender identity as a “social marker.”
“I’ll just say this, as disgusting as it sounds, they want their child to be part of the LGBTQ community because it looks like a virtue flag that they can hang on their front lawn. Oh look, we’ve got a weird kid,” Vance said.

“Some of these crazy parents have a weird thing to imagine. There has to be a reason why this huge percentage of Hollywood kids are transgender,” he added.
Vance said adolescence is naturally a confusing time and that trying to “medicalize” what might be considered typical teenage questioning could do more harm than good. “I don’t know anyone between the ages of 10 and 15 who hasn’t said, ‘Oh, how, sometimes I’ve had some, you know, weird ideas,'” Vance said.
JD Vance discussed how notions of privilege and gender identity have changed over the past few decades. He notes that in the past, an 11-year-old expressing gender confusion might have been dismissed, but now there is a tendency to view such feelings as potentially transidentified. Vance warns that this shift medicalizes the common teenage confusion that is a normal part of growing up, and also benefits pharmaceutical companies financially from these changes.
Vance said he and Trump could win the “normal gay vote” because of their desire for autonomy. He emphasized that people do not want pharmaceutical interventions for transgender children.
Joe Rogan added that many gay men see the current movement as unintentionally homophobic, suggesting that it perpetuates the idea that being gay is a problem that needs to be solved. He argued that instead of supporting gay youth, there was a risk of encouraging them to change their gender with the help of pharmaceuticals.
“You shouldn’t have biological males competing with biological females
Joe Rogan also expressed concern about schools allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports. Rogan noted that the trend is affecting sports scholarships, citing a women’s pool tournament in England where two biological males reached the semifinals.
Vance also discusses the physical advantages of biological males in competition, which raises safety and fairness concerns.
“I am the father of a 2-year-old daughter. I want my daughter to learn these important life skills. I don’t want her competing in sports where I’m afraid she’ll be beaten to death because we’re “I’m letting a 6’1 man compete with her in a sport where biological males shouldn’t compete against biological females “, he said.
