A Virginia organization, the River City Bread Basket offers voting resources for residents

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) – In Waynesboro, the River City Bread Basket (RCBB) provided residents with important information about renters’ rights, voting day resources and other important areas of advocacy during a Halloween-themed community event.

AJ Young Jr., director of public affairs at Bread Basket, explained the importance of such meetings. RCBB has partnered with Virginia Organization discuss voting and participation in elections during this event. Andrea Jackson, a chapter member, emphasized the need for civic education.

“What we’re doing is trying to inform people about what’s going on in local elections in a non-partisan way,” Jackson said.

Young said the initiative furthers their mission to support the neighborhood and foster a sense of community.

“It’s great to have them here to be with us, to share with our guests, just to let them know that there’s advocacy out there,” Young said, “that efforts that are trying to help their lives run a little bit smoother.” »

Located in Waynesboro’s A District, River City Bread Basket operates as a grocery store of choice for customers, helping to replenish local tables. Jackson emphasized that events like this are vital to the residents of Ward A, encouraging community members to participate in the election process to ensure their concerns are addressed. As the River City Bread Basket continues to serve as an important resource, they remind residents to take advantage of opportunities for information and support as they arise.

The River City Bread Basket is located at 505 N. Winchester Ave. in Waynesboro and is open every Thursday from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There are no eligibility requirements and RCBB is open to all Virginia residents.
