New Jersey mother and grandmother killed in targeted home invasion with victim’s young son inside: reports

A New Jersey mother and her own mother were shot and killed after at least one intruder broke into their home and committed a double homicide while the woman’s young son was inside, officials and neighbors said.

Catherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, of Willingboro Township, were killed after a suspect or suspects broke in through a first-floor window, the Burlington County District Attorney’s Office said. said

Both victims were found in an upstairs bedroom when police responded to the burglary, which was in progress around 4 a.m., prosecutors said. Two women died at the scene.

So far, no suspects have been arrested, although authorities believe it was “not a random incident” and stress that the surrounding community will not be harmed.

The assailant or gunmen fled before the police arrived on the scene.

Neighbors told local media that Catherine’s young son was in the house at the time of the murder.

“We found out that the child was under the bed, while her mother was killed, and her grandmother was gone,” said local resident Charlie Harris. told NBC 10.

Another neighbor, Glenda Sprauwe, who lives next door, said the family mostly kept to themselves but were kind.

“She was a cool but very nice person. She was kind enough to make me shed a tear or two and then some. I couldn’t even sleep last night,” Sprauwe told the station. “It hurts. it hurts And I feel so bad for her son.”

Sprave added that the Nunez family moved from Brooklyn at least a couple of years ago, ABC 6 reports.

“It’s sad. It’s sad, especially in Willingborough. We don’t have that type of thing on our street,” Harris told the radio station.

Willingboro is about 20 miles east of Philadelphia.
