Patients from Hong Kong Public Clinic to get a maximum of 24-week supply of medicine

Hong Kong residents will be limited to the maximum 24-week supply of medicines in public clinics and hospitals for visit, starting with the following month under the new policy introduced by the authorities.

William Chun Mang, Chief Pharmacist of the Hospital, stated on Tuesday that the policy began on March 24.

“For example, if a doctor prescribes 10 months of medicine for a patient, the pharmacy will first provide initial delivery for six months and refuel the rest four months later,” he said.

“Our first goal is to reduce drug consumption, the second is to increase patient safety … The third will improve therapeutic results.”

Policy will cover patients in general and specialized outpatient clinics, as well as those who have been released from hospitals, he said.

But in each case, patients with mobility problems or difficulties will be considered to be heard.
