Don’t miss your last chance this year to tackle the waterfalls on the Watkins Glen Trail

Fall is fleeting, so your chances of hiking the waterfall-filled Gorge Trail on Watkins Glen State Park until the end of the season.

Awarded Finger Lakes gem has announced that the two-mile trail, which passes 19 beautiful waterfalls, will close for a year on November 4, 2024.

If you miss your chance this weekend, you’ll have to wait until mid to late May 2025 when it’s expected to reopen.

Watkins Glen State Park however, there are other route options, and you can still hike the Roman Trail year-round and enjoy views of the deep Glen Creek Gorge from above.

After record high temperatures this week, the weather around Watkins Glen will return to cooler autumn days, so be sure to dress up and wear appropriate footwear as spray from the falls can wet rocky paths and stone steps.

Every year, visitors come by the busload to this upstate New York town to hike the scenic gorge trail, surrounded by 200-foot cliffs.

In 2024, it will also be 100 years since the foundation of the village New York State Park and the Historic Landmark System, which includes Watkins Glen.
