New York launches domestic violence prevention initiative

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – Specialists in the Empire State are trained to identify and help victims of domestic violence.

It’s part of New York Governor Cathy Hochul’s initiative to prevent intimate partner violence.

The meetings were attended by representatives of the legal system, social service workers and other specialists.

The event teaches how to assess risk in DV cases and how to respond in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive manner.

“The state can look at our response to domestic violence homicides and really understand how we can predict domestic violence homicides and how as a community and the state, if we work together, we can reduce domestic violence homicides,” Kelly Owens said. from the New York State Office of Domestic Violence Prevention.

More than 250 people took part in the summit.

Earlier this month, Gov. Kathy Hochul invested $35 million to strengthen law enforcement response.
