Man wearing Halloween masks is robbing Wayne County businesses

A man has been arrested after robbing three businesses in Wayne County while wearing a skeleton and clown mask.

On Oct. 27, the FBI sent an affidavit to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan detailing probable cause for the suspect’s arrest.

Robbery at Intimate Ideas

On October 27, 2024, shortly before 1 a.m., a man wearing a partial skeleton mask robbed Intimate Ideas in Westland at gunpoint. The robber demanded money from the cash register. The robber returned the gun to his belt and opened the register himself. He was able to take about $422 from the cash register before leaving the store.

Attempted robbery of McDonald’s

A man wearing a clown mask and green jacket attempted to rob a McDonald’s in Westland shortly before 6.30am on October 27. Authorities said he entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the register. Employees were unable to comply with the robber’s demands because the register was closed. The robber tried to open the cash register, and the employees left the store. He could not get the money and left the restaurant.

Shell gas station robbery

Shortly after attempting to rob a McDonald’s, a man wearing a clown mask walked into a Shell gas station in Garden City, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register.

The robber told the clerk, “You have 30 seconds before I start shooting.”

The clerk then gave the robber about $1,070.

The robber took the money and said “Thank you” before leaving the store.

The masked robber was arrested

Garden City police were patrolling the area of ​​the gas station and found a man sitting in his car in front of an apartment complex near the gas station.

The man, Brendan Bonner, was not wearing a mask but was wearing a green jacket that matched the surveillance video. He was taken out of the car and detained.

Police found the following items inside Bonner’s car:

  • Black polymer semi-automatic pistol P80,

  • Clown mask

  • Latex gloves

The police also found money wrapped in a rubber band in his pocket.

Police also searched Bonner’s apartment and found a partial skeleton mask, clothing that matched what had been won from the Intimate Ideas robbery, and money.

Authorities spoke with a person who also lived in the apartment during the search. The person said Bonner took a skeleton mask and a gun he made from parts he ordered online. Bonner told the man he was going to commit a robbery. When Bonner returned to the apartment, he told the man he had robbed Intimate Ideas at gunpoint.

A person who lived in the apartment also told police that Bonner spent hours cleaning the money to avoid fingerprints. Bonner told the person he didn’t take his phone with him to the robbery because he knew it could be tracked.

The second time Bonner left the apartment, the man told police he took a clown mask and the same gun.

During an interview with police, Bonner admitted to robbing three businesses. Then he was taken into custody.
