This week our focus is on very cold temperatures

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – We are waking up to a decent amount of snow on the ground in Western Massachusetts. Our coastal low pressure area moved away and the snow ended well before sunrise.

Here are some local snow reports:

  • Ashfield – 8 inches
  • Goshen – 7.8 inches
  • Charlemont & Worthington – 7.5 inches
  • Conway – 7 inches
  • Plainfield – 6.8 inches
  • Middlefield, Huntington, Colrain & Brimfield – 6 inches
  • Granville – 5.5 inches
  • Monson, Greenfield, South Hadley, West Springfield & Agawam – 5 inches
  • Easthampton – 4.6 inches
  • Springfield – 4.5 inches
  • Westfield – 4.1 inches
  • Palmer, Ludlow & Northampton – 4 inches

Now the cleaning continues! There could be a few slick spots on the roads this morning, some snowy roads, but also some icy conditions as temperatures dropped into the twenties overnight.

We’re staying cold today with highs only reaching 20 degrees and a fresh breeze at times so the wind chill will be in the single digits and in the mid-teens. All this will take place under a combination of sun and clouds.

It’s freezing tonight as temperatures drop to around 0-2°, below freezing in the hills.

An arctic blast will arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime highs only reaching the tweens, wind chills making everyone feel below freezing, especially in the morning.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the first days of the weather warning due to severe cold.

The wind chill, especially in the morning, can be from -20 to -5°.

As we head into the end of the week and into the weekend, temperatures are slowly starting to return to normal and our picture looks set to remain dry and windy.
