Former Auburn inmate pleads guilty to assaulting police officers

A former inmate at the Auburn Correctional Facility admitted to assaulting two corrections officers in August 2023.

Jaquez Cornett, of Ithaca, pleaded guilty in Cayuga County District Court to two counts of second-degree assault, according to District Attorney Brittany Groom Antonacci.

Cornett faces five years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

The sentences will run concurrently, but in sequence with his current sentence. Both officers required emergency treatment, one for a concussion and the other for neck pain. Cornett’s sentencing is scheduled for April 25.
