The charges against Mayor Gauthier were dismissed

Public drunkenness and disorderly conduct charges against Gauthier Mayor Casey Vaughn were dismissed in court Wednesday.

Cameron McCormick, Vaughn’s attorney, said the charges were filed by Linda Anderson, wife of Councilman Rusty Anderson, in connection with an incident during a Sam Hunt concert at The Sound Amphitheater in Gauthier on Sept. 6, 2024.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Jackson County District Court Judge Danny Gice III found the charges did not meet the necessary legal standard and expressed concern that they “appear to be politically motivated rather than based on criminal conduct,” McCormick said in an email to media outlets. .

“I am grateful to the court for its careful consideration and its commitment to maintaining the integrity of our legal system,” Vaughn said. “I remain fully committed to serving the people of Gauthier with transparency, focus and unwavering commitment, and I look forward to continuing our work together to strengthen our community.”
