Sarasota police have released body camera footage showing the crash between the officer and the child

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sarasota Police Chief Rex Trosch has released new information regarding the tragic crash that happened Monday night at approximately 6:30 pm at the intersection of 23rd Street and Maple Avenue, involving a Sarasota Police Officer and 8th one year old child

Sarasota Police Department released the video Wednesday from both the officer’s body-worn camera and a car dash cam taken by another officer at the scene. The police department warns viewer discretion is advised as the footage may be difficult to view and hear.

According to department officials, the child was on the motorcycle when the officer left the scene of another call. That’s when they say the officer hit the child.

The policeman was not injured, he was taken to the administrative service.

This remains an active investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
