100 shots Saraland police shoot man in standoff after chase

A man has died in Saraland after being shot by police during a standoff on Wednesday.

According to a spokesman for the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, officers were trying to execute a warrant against the man for Internet crimes against children.

However, when police attempted a traffic stop, they noticed he had a gun.

Sheriff Paul Burch said the man tried to run and when officers chased him, he fired at them.

A PIT maneuver, a police tactic used to stop fleeing vehicles, was deployed, but he continued to lure officers back to his home, where he barricaded himself inside.

Burch said officers attempted to negotiate with the individual, but the suspect fired at officers. This led to dozens of officers firing approximately 100 shots in return.

The man was hit several times and died from his injuries.

Dianne Wright was a neighbor of the man who died and was at home when the fight broke out. She told Fox10 News about it How chaotic the situation was, listening to all the bullets go off.

“I think he must have stuck the barrel of his gun out the door and all the officers, about 50 officers, fired bullets and they were just flying everywhere. It was very scary,” Wright said.

Wright said the man had a wife and two children, and recalled that he was a “family man.”

She said she didn’t know he had been in trouble with the police.

The man’s truck was towed away while police examined the scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
