Four teenagers were arrested after an armed carjacking in Bethesda

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND (DC News Now) — Authorities have arrested four teenagers in connection with an armed carjacking in Bethesda, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Police have identified the suspects as a 13-year-old, 14-year-old and 17-year-old from Silver Spring, as well as a 15-year-old from Prince George’s County.

According to MCPD, on Saturday, Oct. 19, at approximately 9:20 p.m., four suspects approached the victim while he was in his vehicle in the 4800 block of Bethesda Ave.

At the time, police said the 17-year-old suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s belongings and car keys. After receiving the property, they took the car and drove away from the scene.

An off-duty officer later saw the stolen vehicle in the area of ​​Wisconsin Avenue and Stanford Street and conducted a traffic stop. The teenagers stopped and tried to run away; however, officers located and arrested them in the area.

The 14-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital with minor injuries that MCPD said he suffered while committing the crime and trying to flee from police.

Authorities then took the teenager into custody on October 22 and charged him with armed carjacking and armed robbery.

Officers took him to Cheltenham Detention Centre, where they also took a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old.

Authorities transported the 17-year-old to Montgomery County Central Processing, where he was charged as an adult with armed carjacking, armed robbery and other related charges.
