A fired Disney employee allegedly changed the menu to change allergy markers

As someone who suffers from allergies to a large sect of foods (ahem, gluten-free food lovers!), I know how important it is to have accurate allergy markers on the menu. Nevertheless, a a new criminal complaint claims that a former Disney World employee intentionally changed the allergy information on the menu to state peanut-free products that actually contained 404 mass media and Court watch reported in cooperation.

The complaint alleges that Michael Scheuer was fired Disney and then used the still-viable passwords to access a third-party-built proprietary menu creation and inventory system. During his crimes, he allegedly changed allergy information, added profanity, changed prices and changed the font to Wingdings. These wings were what initially prompted the employees. All menus in the database were deemed unusable and the app went offline for a week or two to fix the issues.

Disney changed the passwords, but then Scheuer allegedly hacked into several third-party FTP channels to change allergy markers and change QR codes that link to a menu for a boycott of Israel website. He also attempted to hack Disney employee accounts nearly 8,000 times. Disney says the altered menu was identified before it was sent to restaurants.

This case is not related to a a doctor who died of an allergic reaction after eating at the Disney Springs restaurant last year. Notably, in August, Disney sought to have a lawsuit filed by the doctor’s husband dismissed, saying it had agreed to settle the claims out of court through arbitration. Reason? In 2019, he signed up to the terms of service for a one-month trial of Disney+, as well as when creating an account to purchase park tickets.
