50 vehicle owners fined in Patna for using unauthorized government plates

At least 50 vehicle owners have been fined by the Patna police for using unauthorized metal plates with inscriptions identifying them as officials of the central government or the Bihar government.

During the drive, the police collected a total fine of Rs 28 lakh from vehicle owners using unauthorized metal plates and also from vehicle owners violating traffic rules.

The drive launched by the Patna police on Christmas Day targeted people using unauthorized metal plates with inscriptions such as “Government of India”, “Government of Bihar” etc.

The campaign was launched in several parts of the city including Marine Drive, Bailey Road and JP Ganga Path. According to Patna police officials, the drive will continue in the coming days and is expected to cover other parts of the city.

The 50 cars fined by the Patna police had metal plates with inscriptions such as “Government of India”, “Government of Bihar” and “Bihar Police”.

The Motor Vehicles Act provides a fine of Rs 2,500 for unauthorized use of metal plates on vehicles.

Speaking about the police action, SP Traffic of Patna, Aprajit Lohan said, “On December 25, we received a tip-off about traffic violations, following which an operation was launched. Our main target was vehicles with VIP lights, horns, lights and During the operation, the cops confiscated their flashlights and government plates.

“A fine of Rs 28 lakh was levied by the authorities during the trip. An FIR has also been filed against six people who were caught driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Lohan.
