A Florida pizza delivery man is accused of stabbing a woman after an argument over tips

A pizza delivery driver in central Florida has been charged after she and an accomplice broke into a motel room and injured a pregnant woman after a dispute over tips, authorities said.

Briana Alvelo is accused of stabbing a woman in her Kissimmee, Florida motel room shortly after delivering pizza to her on Sunday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman gave Alvelo $50 in a $33.10 bill, expecting a refund. As Alvelo began to walk away, the woman asked for her money back and the pizza delivery driver told her they don’t usually give change, according to the arrest report.

The woman began searching for smaller denominations in two purses in her motel room and in her car, with Alvelo watching. She received a smaller dollar bill from her boyfriend, with whom she was staying at the motel with their 5-year-old daughter, and Alvelo’s tip ended up being $2, the report said.

Alvelo “rolled her eyes and left without saying anything,” the report said.

A short time later, the woman, her boyfriend and daughter were sleeping when they heard a knock on the door of the motel room. The woman opened the door and was confronted by the woman, who authorities said was Alvelo, and the armed man, both wearing masks, who pushed their way into the room. The armed man ordered the boy into the bathroom. Alvelo rummaged through their belongings in the motel room and then stabbed the women 14 times with a pocket knife while protecting his daughter, the arrest report said.

The arrest report said the woman had just found out she was several weeks pregnant. She was taken to the hospital, where she underwent surgery for a ruptured lung.

Alvelo was charged with attempted murder, home invasion with a firearm, kidnapping and aggravated assault with a weapon. The online court registry did not list her attorney. Before Thursday’s first hearing, she said in court documents that she could not afford an attorney and asked that one be assigned to her.

As of Thursday, authorities have not publicly identified the suspect.
