Jervonta Davis posted a disappointing post on Instagram, then deleted it

Is Jervonta Davis trolling his opponent and the boxing community, or is his March 1 fight with Lamont Roach Jr. really canceled?

On Monday, Davis sparked outrage from fans after he posted the image below on his Instagram account. The Uncrowned took a picture and posted it on X.

I was unable to reach Davis, but I reached out to Roach Jr.’s publicist, Neil Wright, to ask if he or his client had been notified of the cancellation or delay. “No, we’re still preparing for March 1 as planned,” Wright said.

Also, several people were asking Roach, and he seemed annoyed by the repeated questions. According to Roach, he still “blocked» on March 1.

Davis has since deleted the post, but chaos ensued.

There seems to be some thought that the fight could be in jeopardy throughout the boxing world. Oscar De La Hoyaface of Golden Boy stationed in Davis on Monday night, offering him an opponent should he need one.

I spoke to Roach in October about the battle. He shared his thoughts about the fight and more.

Below is the corrected and revised text GPS rulesguaranteeing correct grammar, punctuation and spelling while preserving the original voice and verlibration:

From the beginning, Davis was criticized for his decision to fight Roach. Davis is considered one of the best fighters and holds a tie in the sport. He is the current WBC champion at 135 pounds.

Although Roach is the WBA super-bantamweight champion, he is considered undersized to fight Davis. Almost no one gives him a chance to win. According to Box Line odds and percentages, there is a 91% chance of Davis winning, while Roach is given a 9% chance. Davis opened as a heavy favorite at (-2000). Roach opened as a huge underdog (+850).

Initially, the fight was supposed to take place in December in Houston. However, it was moved to March and the venue moved to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

At this point, the fight is questionable at best.

Davis has not fought since June 2024, when he scored an explosive eighth-round knockout victory over Frank Martin. Davis remains undefeated at 30-0 with 28 knockouts. He has won four straight by knockout and is ranked in the top 10 in most pound-for-pound rankings.

Davis wanted to fight IBF champion and Ukrainian legend Vasyl Lomachenko, but the latter is not sure if he wants to continue the fight. Lomachenko won his title with an 11th round TKO over George Kambosos Jr. in May.

With the problems with Lomachenko and the first delay of the fight with Roach, Davis seems to have been a little disappointed with the state of his career. At a press event to promote the fight, Davis raised eyebrows when he said he plans to retire at the end of 2025.

It’s hard to tell if the instability is due to Davis playing mind games with Roach or if he’s actually conflicted about his career. We’ll see if the fight gets canceled or if it’s just another piece of the storyline leading up to the fight in March.
