Harwinton man pleads guilty to four counts of rioting at Capitol on Jan. 6

HARWINTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Harwinton man has pleaded guilty to four counts related to his involvement in the riot at the Capitol on January 6.

Richard Crosby Jr. pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a prohibited building or premises, disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct in a prohibited building or premises, disorderly conduct in the Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol building.

In July 2023, Richard Crosby Jr. pleaded not guilty to all charges, and last July Crosby Jr. asked to have one of his charges dismissed.

Crosby Jr. has been charged with multiple charges including obstruction of justice/congress, knowingly entering or being in any restricted building or area without lawful authority, disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct in a restricted building or area, entering and being in on the premises of Congress, disorderly conduct in the Capitol building, parades, demonstrations or picketing in the Capitol building.

Harwinton man wants to drop charges in Jan. 6 riot

This happened after cellphone recordings of people outside the US Capitol building who are not authorized to be there. Photos and videos of people were shared on social networks and other platforms.

Footage from the Senate floor shows Crosby Jr. in the center of the Senate shortly after Vice President Pence and senators were evacuated from the chamber. Crosby wore a black coat, a Make America Great Again cap and glasses. An online YouTube video shows Crosby calling himself “Rick C.”

He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Crosby Jr. was arrested on June 3, 2021.
