In Argentina, after the collapse of a 10-story hotel, a man died and nine others are considered missing.

The 10-story Hotel Dubrovnik in the town of Villa Hessell, about 370 kilometers from the capital Buenos Aires on the Atlantic coast, collapsed early Wednesday, according to a statement from municipal authorities.

Firefighters, paramedics and police worked to remove debris to reach people believed to be buried.

The victim is believed to be an 80-year-old man who lived in a building next to the collapsed hotel, Buenos Aires Provincial Security Minister Javier Alonso told TN news channel.

His partner was rescued, but authorities are not sure if the couple’s son was at the scene, Alonso added.

Among the missing are workers at a construction site at the hotel, which apparently worked “undercover without following municipal regulations,” according to the statement.

CNN is trying to contact those responsible for the building for more information.

The hotel, opened in 1986, underwent a number of restorations and modifications.

The municipality said in a statement that work at the site had already been “discovered and stopped” back in August after they did not have the proper permits to proceed.
