A child is recovering after being hit by a car that crashed through three businesses in Westheimer Saturday afternoon.

The car first entered the strip center through the front of the church, then turned around and drove through four interior walls. He stopped inside the gun shop.

Strip mall owner Joseph Rothchild said he spoke with the man who was driving and that he had just returned from treatment at a dialysis center across the business at the time of the crash.

“He said he remembered going backwards and he remembered going forwards, but after that he just remembered waking up in space,” Rothchild said.

Darrick Brown, who owns 32 Degrees, said a man painting his windows first warned him and patrons about the SUV. At that moment, he had just crashed into a parked car.

Surveillance video shows people running to the exit. You can hear a screeching sound before the SUV crashes into the wall and crashes into the child.

According to the police, the child has internal bleeding.

Rothchild said a woman in the clothing store was also injured and taken to the hospital.

Other victims received non-life-threatening injuries, the police reported that there were no fatalities.

Rothschild said the damaged businesses are undergoing emergency repairs and all five are expected to be open Sunday.
