Suspect in custody after shooting of deputy in Yancey Co.

YANCEY COUNTY, NC (FOX, Carolina) – The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office says a road is closed due to a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle Monday.

Deputies said the pursuit ended in the county near Mountain Heritage High School on US 19E when the vehicle collided head-on with a patrol car.

According to officials, the deputy opened fire to protect public safety.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Mission Hospital. None of the law enforcement officers and members of the public were injured, the deputies reported.

Officials said the road was closed as deputies processed the scene, but it has reopened to traffic.
