The suspected burglar pleaded guilty to the 2022 crimes

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Gregory Embry, a burglary and attempted assault suspect, has pleaded guilty in connection with a 2022 incident in which he was shot by a Daviess County sheriff’s deputy.

As previously reported, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 9300 block of US Highway 60 West to investigate a burglary. Embry is said to have broken into the homes of several neighbors and assaulted a woman.

Upon arrival, authorities say Embry refused commands and lunged at the deputy with a hammer, who then shot Embry to stop the attack. Embry was treated for his injuries and officials say he eventually recovered.

At a modified plea hearing Friday, Embry pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Attack attempt

  • Burglary

  • Senseless threat

  • Attack

  • Criminal mischief

Officials say Embry has been in jail since being released from the hospital and must serve 85 percent of his 15-year sentence before being eligible for parole.

The case was prosecuted by Daviess County District Attorney Mike Van Meter.
