Varanasi Municipal Corporation authorizes NOCs to conduct activities at Ganga ghats to prevent unauthorized activities

VARANASI: Now, no organization or individual can conduct any event or program at the ghats of river Ganga without the permission of the municipal corporation. The Varanasi Municipal Corporation began to strictly follow this rule.
Municipal Commissioner Akshat Verma urged the general public to get a no-objection certificate from the municipal corporation before organizing any event on Ganga Ghats. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against them as per the rules.
He said that it is often seen that various organizations or individuals often organize activities in Ganga Ghats and get permission from the district administration, police or other departments, but they do not get permission from the municipal corporation.
The Municipal Corporation is responsible for cleaning, repairing and beautifying the ghats, and after the activities, the area often becomes dirty or damaged, which the Municipal Corporation has to repair. In view of this, the municipal corporation has decided that any organization or individual should also obtain a no-objection certificate from them for their activities.
A local resident, Gaurav Kapoor, was spotted on Friday pitching a tent and promoting the event at Shivala Ghat, Guleria Ghat and Bhosale Ghat.
On receiving the information, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Anil Yadav of the Revenue Department immediately reached the spot and found that Gaurav Kapoor was organizing the event every year without obtaining permission from the Municipal Corporation. As a result, the assistant municipal commissioner imposed a fine of Rs 1.75 lakh, which the organizer promptly paid.
