The suspect in the double murder is in custody

HOLMES COUNTY, FL (WMBB) – Bonifacio police say they currently have a suspect in custody in connection with a double murder. On Monday morning, members of the US Marshal’s Task Force arrested Jesse Raby, a 26-year-old resident of Bonifay.

They say they found Raby asleep in the back bedroom of their home. Authorities say they expected to find Jesse Raby somewhere nearby. At 7:00 a.m. Monday morning, they fulfilled those expectations.

“He didn’t try to cower or hide inside the house or block the window where you couldn’t see in. So I think he was exhausted. He was tired and this was the only place he could go and not face anyone but himself,” said Bonifacio Police Chief Johnny Whitaker.

Raby is being held in the Holmes County Jail on two counts of second-degree murder. Whitaker believes he killed his mother and brother at home sometime late Friday night or Saturday morning.

When the 59-year-old woman did not show up for work, some of her colleagues asked to check her health. The front door was blocked by a piano. The police examined the outside of the house and saw the body through the window.

They found Rabi’s 59-year-old mother and 29-year-old brother dead inside. Florida Department of Law Enforcement officers collected evidence from the scene and helped interview Raby.

“We were able to get an interview with him this morning, contacted the state attorney’s office and let them know what we were doing. FDLE was part of the interview process this morning,” Whitaker said.

Whitaker says it’s not a case you see every day.

“It is not every day that a young man takes the life of his mother and brother. So we take it very seriously. And we have to get answers for the family,” Whitaker said.

Bonifacio police continue to search for a person involved in a double homicide investigation

The medical examiner conducts autopsies on the body to determine the cause of death. Raby is due in court Tuesday for a bond hearing.

“I am not only confident that we have found the right person, I am also confident in the prosecutor’s office. This case will or will go to trial. And I feel like we’re going to get a good prosecution,” Whitaker added.

Whitaker says they don’t have a motive yet, but noted the family was being evicted from their home.
