Delphi murder trial: DNA evidence shows no links to suspect Richard Allen or anyone else in slayings of Libby Herman, Abby Williams

DELPHI, Indiana — No DNA was found at the scene of a double murder in Delphi, Indiana, linking the suspect, Richard Allen, or anyone else to the crime scene, a forensics expert testified Monday during Allen’s trial.

Best friends Libby German, 14, and Abby Williams, 13, were walking along a hiking trail in rural Delpha when they were stabbed to death and left in the woods on February 13, 2017. Allen was arrested in 2022 and pleaded not guilty. to murder

Rape kits were used on Abby and Libby; No sperm was found and there was no DNA evidence that the girls had been sexually assaulted, Indiana State Police Medical Examiner Stacey Bozinowski said Monday.

Bozinowski said some of the swabs showed the possible presence of male DNA, but the amount was insufficient, and she told the court she did not do a confirmatory test because she wanted to maximize the use of the sample.

Bozinowski noted that she did find male DNA in genital swabs and fingernails, but she said it was not entirely unusual because it could have come from shared clothing. She said it yielded very little DNA.

Bozinowski said the hair found on Abby’s arm matched that of Libby’s sister.

According to police analysis, an unfired .40-caliber round found near the girls’ bodies came from Allen’s gun.

Bozinowski said she tested an unexpended cartridge found at the crime scene, but the DNA found on the cartridge was insufficient for further testing.

Allen has admitted to being on the trails the day the girls were killed, but denies any involvement in the murders.
