A Chicago man has been charged with negligent homicide in a crash in Little Village

CHICAGOThe man was charged driving while intoxicated during the accident that killed his passenger on Sunday morning at Male Selo surroundings.

Angel Rodriguez, 35, was allegedly driving under the influence when he crashed his car in the 4500 block of West 26th Street around 2 a.m., police said.

As a result of the accident, his 26-year-old female passenger died. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified him as Alvaro Gomez-Mendez.

Rodriguez was arrested an hour later in the same block where the accident occurred.

He was charged with one count of reckless homicide and one count of aggravated battery causing death, both felonies. Rodriguez was also charged with misdemeanor DUI and DUI with a BAC over 0.08. He was also cited for failing to reduce speed.

A detention hearing for Rodriguez is scheduled for Monday.
