The airport road is closed after an SUV catches fire in Logan

Local news

State police closed the top of the road near Terminal B for an hour Monday morning after an SUV caught fire.

An SUV caught fire at Logan International Airport on Monday, prompting police to temporarily close part of the roadway, authorities said.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the Terminal B overhead walkway just after 10 a.m., the agency said. Police said officers blocked the roadway for about an hour.

Filmed material from WCVB shows firefighters dousing the car with water.

According to police, it was a 2019 Kia SUV driven by an unidentified 40-year-old man. No one was injured during the fire, the police said. MassPort Fire extinguished the flames, the release said. It is not known what exactly caused the car to catch fire.

Logan Airport issued an alert to passengers during the fire, asking travelers to “allow extra time” to get to Terminal B.

Police said they cleared the scene by 11 a.m. Masport did not immediately respond to multiple requests for clarification.

While there was a smoky smell and haze over Boston on Monday, this small fire is not the cause. Sprat forest fires erupted in eastern Massachusetts over the weekend, causing a strong smell of fire.
