OKC Thunder’s Cason Wallace talks elite defense during the game

The Oklahoma City Thunder are one of the best teams in the entire NBA. Through their first three games, they are one of four perfect teams remaining with a +58 point differential. There are several driving factors as to why they were so elite to start the new year.

One aspect that makes the Thunder so difficult to score on is their carousel of on-ball defenders who can stop an offense before it starts. Lou Dort, Cason Wallace and Alex Caruso are the best guard trio in the NBA, and the second-year guard proved it last night.

There was a stretch where Wallace shut down Trae Young as the Thunder swept the Atlanta Hawks to open the season at the Paycom Center. That stretch helped completely shut down the Hawks’ offense, allowing Oklahoma City to take a big lead in the game.

Defense is something the entire team prides itself on, and Wallace detailed why he does so by being one of the best perimeter defenders the league has to offer.

“It’s a lot of fun to be a member of one of the highest levels, to be proud of not wanting to get points, especially in an iso situation. It’s just fundamentally healthy and stick to them,” Wallace explained.

Wallace is not only a solid defender, but also a very skilled shooter as he made 41 percent of his 3-pointers a season ago. Against the Hawks, he hit his first downtown shot of the season.

“It’s over, I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth,” Wallace said after the win.

Expect Wallace to be a major contributor for one of the league’s best teams as he looks to shine in his second NBA season.
