New details about the injured deputy, suspected of ramming his car

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A 19-year-old man is accused of carjacking and ramming the patrol car of a deputy trying to pull him over, seriously injuring the officer.

According to arrest warrants, it all happened around 1 p.m. Thursday and ended with the crash at 1:15 p.m. Thursday in the Amazing Beauty Supply parking lot at Gordon Highway and Bayvale Road.

According to warrants for Steward’s arrest, Omarion Rayshawn Steward carjacked a 2014 Toyota Camry and then intentionally sped off the patrol car occupied by Deputy Christopher Brown.

According to the warrants, the patrol car was struck on the front passenger side.

According to arrest warrants, the Camry, valued at $14,000, was stolen nearly three hours earlier in the 500 block of Caldwell Drive.

Brown and other deputies later learned where the car was and attempted to recover it during what witnesses said was a high-speed chase.
