Two teenagers are wanted after a police chase involving an alleged carjacking in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Baton Rouge Police Department officers are searching for two teenagers wanted in connection with a police chase and an alleged carjacking.

According to the police, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 25.

Officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Doverwood Drive, near Scotland Avenue, for a “suspicious incident.”

After receiving an anonymous tip, officers learned that there were people in the area who were “staging suspected stolen vehicles.” When officers arrived, the anonymous complainant pointed out one of the vehicles, identified as a white Camry, was driving by and leaving the area. The officers began a pursuit. The vehicle struck a fire hydrant, BRPD said. Baker police later recovered the stolen vehicle.

Three people in school uniform got out of the car and ran away, police confirmed. Later, one of the juvenile suspects was taken into custody. As a perimeter was established, a BRPD K9 responded when two other teenagers were last seen jumping a fence on the Scotlandville High School campus.

The school was placed on lockdown for safety reasons while police searched for the suspects. During the investigation, two minors were detained for questioning; however, it was determined that there was insufficient evidence at the time to charge the subjects.

According to law enforcement, the school was initially locked down for security reasons as the alleged suspects were believed to be involved in several other thefts and carjackings. In one such case, the suspects took the victim’s vehicle and, leaving the scene, fired one shot into the air, while the victim chased after them. The case is pending further investigation, two suspects are at large.

The juvenile detainee was charged with the following:

47:536 License plate changed

14:76.26 Car theft

14:55 Damage to property under aggravating circumstances

14:108.1 Aggravated fleeing of officer

40:966 Habitual possession of marijuana

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact BRPD or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867).
