Two members of the Koya Union parashad — Sanwar Hossain and Anwar Hossain — were also injured in the attack.

Locals said two members of Ward No. 5 and No. 6 of the union parish along with four policemen went to the Padma river in a boat where several fishermen were fishing around 4 am in defiance of the government ban.

Sensing the presence of a police boat, a group of criminals attacked them and beat them mercilessly, as a result of which two members of the UP were injured. One day two policemen jumped into the river.

Some fishermen claimed that the police had come there to loot fish illegally caught by fishermen, even though they were not supposed to conduct any patrols there.

Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Mahmudul Hasan said there was no information on the illegal use of netting in the Padma River.

Palash Kanti Nath, Additional Superintendent of Police, the police team conducted an operation to rescue the missing policemen.
