Two people were killed in a shooting at a Minneapolis camp Sunday, the second fatal shooting in camp this weekend.

What we know

Minneapolis police responded to the shooting around 2:20 p.m. Sunday on Snelling Avenue east of Hiawatha Avenue.

At the scene, police say they found three victims shot in the camp: two men and one woman. According to the police, both men died at the scene, and the woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Three people have been detained, but police have yet to say whether any of them are suspected of a crime.

Context

Sunday’s shooting comes a day after another triple shooting at another homeless camp in Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

Police responded about 4:45 a.m. to a report of a shooting at a campground near 21st Street East and 15th Avenue South — about 5.5 miles north of Snelling’s shooting near Hiawatha.

At the scene, law enforcement officers found three shot dead men. Later, one of the men died of his injuries in the hospital.

Just last month, Minneapolis was dealing with another series of deadly shootings in the camp which left two men dead. In that case, Joshua Anthony Jones was arrested and charged with murder. Police said he was involved in all three shootings. Investigators say Jones has ties to the local mafia.
