A 17-year-old boy in a stolen car became the target of a car chase when he hit a mother and her 23-year-old daughter as they were driving on the highway, Oklahoma police said.

The teenager had three cars were stolen within 24 hours, according to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office and KOTV, and said he would “give his life” to steal the car.

The high-speed chase began in Craig County on Oct. 20 and continued into Rogers County, deputies said. They eventually discovered the car had crashed in a ditch, officials said.

Dispatchers then received a 911 call from a person who said their truck had just been stolen with a gun inside, deputies said. Eventually, the police found the teenager speeding down a country road in a stolen truck.

The teenager initially avoided stop sticks thrown by deputies, but then punctured three tires when deputies threw the sticks.

With punctured tires, a 17-year-old boy crossed the railway track, hitting a vehicle in which a mother and daughter were, deputies reported. Logan Harrell, a 23-year veterandied at the scene, according to the press release and her obituary.

Her mother was injured and taken to the hospital, police said.

According to her obituary, Harrell served in Kuwait for six months while serving in the Army from 2019 to 2023. She also studied elementary education and cheerleading at Rogers State College.

“Logan loved being with her family, shopping, wearing her Crocs, and teaching and helping other cheerleaders in the area,” her obituary read.

On Oct. 25, the teenager accused of killing her was charged with murder, endangering others while attempting to flee from a police officer, carjacking and other offenses, according to court records.

Information about the teenager’s lawyer is not specified. McClatchy News is not naming the suspect because he is a juvenile.

Deputies told KOTV the teenager was chased in three different states and traveled from Missouri to California to commit the crime.

“He completed a home invasion near Republic, Missouri, where he planned to kill the homeowner, a former mentor,” Sheriff Scott Walton told KOTV.

The teenager is due to appear in court on October 31.

Rogers County is about a 35-mile drive northeast of Tulsa.
