BREAKING: One of two ASU students found dead in Chandler garage

An ASU student was found dead in a garage in Chandler along with a 17-year-old boy around 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to an email from the Chandler Police Department.

According to a statement from the Chandler Police Department, Chandler police identified the two teenagers after conducting a social security check requested by people who knew the deceased. Police were initially conducting routine patrol near North Arizona Avenue and East Ray Road before being questioned, the department said.

The families of the two teenagers reported them missing Sunday night and Monday, eventually tracking them down through cell phones and text messages in the garage. Officials arrived at the scene early Tuesday morning, according to the article AZ Central.

A preliminary investigation suggests the death was accidental, Chandler said. However, detectives must wait until the forensic medical examination confirms death, the report says.

The student, Romeo Elias Alvarez, was a freshman studying biological sciences, according to a university spokesman.

“Arizona State University extends its deepest condolences to Romeo’s family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time,” a university spokesperson said in an email.

The incident is still under investigation.
