The prime minister was also invited to address a group of conservatives working on climate policy in the United States.

“She will also use this trip as an opportunity to continue building relationships within the Trump administration and hold a series of bilateral meetings and roundtables to advocate for Albertans with our largest trading partner,” Johannsen said.

Smith announced the visit on social media Friday, saying she “can’t wait” for the federal government and plans to take the lead in promoting Alberta’s energy sector.

“Alberta’s energy sector is a cornerstone of North American prosperity and we are ready to work with our partners in the United States, especially (Donald Trump), to make sure that remains true,” Smith said in the post.
