“Call the Midwife” photos from the first two-part holiday program

The 2024 year Call the midwife Special holiday just around the corner, and for the first time ever, it will be a two-part viewing event! Official show Instagram the page announced a special issue in two parts on November 1. And now PBS and the BBC have shared the first photos from the upcoming festive episodes, which give a glimpse of what’s to come in what’s sure to be a heartwarming story.

The announcement on Instagram revealed that the two-part special will each last one hour and will end with a cliffhanger that appears to be addressed in Call the midwife The 14th season, the premiere of which is scheduled for 2025.

“Call the midwife has traditionally treated fans to a 90-minute Christmas special, but this year’s festive trip to Poplar will consist of two 60-minute episodes, complete with Christmas twists!” series shared before diving into plot details.

“A funfair comes to Poplar, adding a splash of color and excitement to the frosty landscape, but the Hong Kong flu threatens to spoil the festivities,” the caption reads. “While Topolya is preparing for a Christmas carol concert, news about an escaped prisoner has reached the neighborhood. Fears are growing that he may be in the area. The Turner children are in a frenzy over Blue Peter’s latest Christmas appeal, but Patrick has a headache. Trixie is joined by her brother Geoffrey and Miss Higgins welcomes her grandson Harry…but the Buckles’ preparations for Reggie’s homecoming are thrown into unexpected turmoil…”

“Who doesn’t like to find an extra, unexpected gift under the Christmas tree? When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas issue for 2024, I couldn’t resist!” Series creator and writer Heidi Thomas OBE said in a statement included in the Instagram post. Dame Pippa Harris, executive producer, said: “This Christmas, viewers will be able to enjoy a two-part festive treat for the first time. Heidi has created an exciting special that I know will delight our loyal fans.”

The Call the midwife Holiday specials traditionally air on Christmas Day, so fans can expect the 2024 special to premiere on December 25 as well. The official date and time of the premiere will be announced later.
