A manhunt for a shooting suspect continues in Lenoir County

UPDATE (November 15: 11:00)

Authorities say this isn’t the first time Everett has run into law enforcement. Lenoir County Sheriff Rogers says: “Everett is clearly a flight risk and extremely dangerous to our community.”

On June 26, he was charged with breaking and entering, as well as larceny after breaking and entering. He was given a $50,000 secured bond, which he managed to post to secure his release. Then, on Aug. 6, Everett broke into a home in La Grange, shot the homeowner, and then fled from law enforcement. He was initially denied bail, but was later granted a $65,000 secured bond, which he posted.

Back on September 18, Everett robbed a business located on 258 North in Kinston, stole a car and fled the scene. Authorities launched a manhunt, and a few days later he was arrested on Joe Nunn Street. He was later released after posting $75,000 bail.

A new state law requires judges to set bail for people on pretrial release.

UPDATE (November 15: 9:30 a.m.) Lenoir County officials have released the names of the victims shot by suspect Ryan Everett. Dustin Snyder, 37, and Kathryn Sturges, 37, are both at a local hospital, but their conditions are unknown. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown.

Additionally, Banks High School was searched this morning and is safe for students.

UPDATE (November 15: 6:35 am) The suspect, Ryan Everett, has not been found. The presence of law enforcement agencies will be increased on the territory.

North Lenoir High School has been searched and is safe for students. There will be a heavy law enforcement presence around and around the high school today, including a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team.

PREVIOUS STORY: The suspect being sought is Ryan Keith Everett, 38, of La Grange.

Authorities say Everett committed a robbery in Greene County, stole two firearms and shot two people at an address on Wheat Swamp Road.

Residents of Wheat Swamp Rd. and 258 US citizens are being asked to stay home at this time while authorities search for a white male gunman.

Everett was previously arrested in September on charges related to a stolen vehicle and a stolen weapon. At the time, Everett was out of prison after multiple felony and misdemeanor charges in the August is associated with shooting.
