A woman’s body was found in a freezer after the suspect was kicked out of her home

Authorities in Las Vegas have arrested a 37-year-old suspect who they say killed an elderly woman after a dispute over their apartment.

Police discovered Monique Gilbertson’s body in the freezer of her Las Vegas mobile home during a welfare check earlier this month. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department the statement says.

The department did not identify the victim in its statement, but she was identified in several local media reports, including FOX 5, Las Vegas Review Journal and KTNV. (The LVMPD declined to identify the victim to PEOPLE, but did share its statement about the investigation in response to an inquiry about Gilbertson’s murder.)

Daniel Roush, 37, was arrested in connection with the murder, LVMPD said. Several media outlets, citing police, are reporting that Roush is called Jazzlynn.

It was not known when Gilbertson died. The person requesting the welfare check told police they last heard from the victim on Oct. 22 8 News now.

Gilbertson’s body was found by police after a welfare check was requested on Nov. 6, according to the statement. Responding officers entered the residence and encountered Rusch and another individual.

They were unable to comment on Gilbertson’s whereabouts, according to the statement. During a search of the residence, LVMPD reports, police discovered her body in the freezer.

The investigation revealed that Roush met the elderly woman at Home Depot when Gilberton offered Roush a place to live in exchange for helping around the house, FOX 5, Las Vegas Review Journal and KTNV reported with reference to the notice of detention.

However, Gilbertson soon became upset with Rausch over alleged cleanliness issues, according to witness statements cited in the report. Gilbertson also suspected Roush of stealing her belongings, FOX 5 and KTNV reported. She then reportedly kicked Rausch out, police alleged, according to 8 News Now and Las Vegas Review Journal.

Rausch allegedly told police that one day Gilbertson was found passed out at her kitchen table with drug paraphernalia on the table, FOX 5, KTNV and 8 News Now.

“I put her in the freezer because I didn’t know what to do,” Rausch told police, according to FOX 5 .

Roush’s wife, who was present when police arrived at Gilbertson’s door, allegedly told authorities she heard from Roush that Gilbertson had overdosed on cocaine and fentanyl, according to KTNV and Las Vegas Review Journal.

Rausch was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on an open charge of murder, LVMPD said.

Rausch pleaded not guilty during a court hearing on Wednesday, November 13, for Las Vegas Review JournalFOX 5 and KSNV.
