Cleveland police arrest teenagers for breaking into cars in several neighborhoods

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cleveland police said three juveniles involved in a series of vehicle break-ins are now in custody.

Ohio City, Battery Park and West 25th Street/Shoreway have been the most recent targets, police said.

Wednesday evening, police responded to new reports of vehicle break-ins in a parking lot in the 1900 block of West 25ththousand St.

Officers spotted a stolen Kia near the scene, police said. Officers tried to stop the car, but police said the driver continued driving.

A short time later, officers spotted the vehicle at a gas station on East 105thousand St. Clair Street and Avenue.

The police said that the driver, who was 14 years old, fled inside the gas station. Police said they found a firearm inside while detaining the teenager.

Meanwhile, two teenagers who were in the car took the opportunity to try to escape, police said.

One of them tried to get into the passenger seat of the stolen car, but backed up and hit the operative’s car.

Two other suspects, a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, got out and ran, but were apprehended a short time later, according to police.

A search of the stolen vehicle revealed suspected stolen property, including credit cards, a firearm and two loaded magazines, police said.

All three juveniles, who have not been named because of their ages, face charges of aggravated assault, fleeing, failure to comply, criminal damage, trespassing to a motor vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
