Lee County authorities say the human skulls may have been purchased online

JAL, NM (KCBD) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has released new information about human remains found this week in JAL, New Mexico.

The sheriff’s office said they found 10 to 20 human skulls on property owned by Cecil Villanueva. Villanueva is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Center on an unrelated trespassing charge.

Forensic experts are examining the remains to determine whether they are whole skulls or just skull fragments.

A statement released Thursday said: “Investigators are actively looking into the possibility that some, if not all, of the human remains may have been purchased online.”

“As of today,” investigators said, “there appears to be no connection between these remains and those of Angela McMains, who went missing from Jal in 2019. the place where the skull fragments were located.”
