32-year-old man arrested in Wisconsin charged with New Hope murder

A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder in New Hope on October 24.

Jack Guy is charged with second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.

As previously reported, police responded to a shooting in the 7300 block of Bass Lake Road in New Hope around 9:39 p.m. on Oct. 24.

The 911 caller was screaming and asking for help, according to a newly unsealed arrest warrant. In the background, the man could be heard saying, “She called 911, we have to go.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a woman screaming for help and saying her brother had been shot. Carnell Mark Johnson Jr., 23. was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the center of the chest. Johnson was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after.

Court documents say the woman’s two children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

Investigators also found a spent shell casing at home.

Neighbors’ surveillance video showed several cars on the street during the shooting. The driver of one of the vehicles drives into the house for about 20 seconds, then runs around the house and back into the house. I think he ran down the hall and stayed in the house for another 10 seconds.

The woman told police that Guy, later identified as the driver, and two other men had been at the home earlier that day. Four were drinking and using drugs.

She told investigators that Guy entered her home later that day while she was in the kitchen. She heard the gunshot and Guy told the victim he was sorry and “didn’t mean to.”

Court documents state the woman did not see Guy shoot or see him with the gun, but he was the only other adult in the home when Johnson was shot.

The woman later told investigators that she had received death threats from Guy’s family.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Guy’s phone, which was turned off the night of the shooting. The last known address of the phone was near the house where the murder took place.

Another woman called police and said Guy was staying with her and came home the night of the murder “nervous and sweaty.” The guy gathered his things and soon left.

He put something on the refrigerator – when the woman cleaned the apartment, she discovered that it was a gun. Court documents say the gun was a 9 mm caliber and was bloody. The shell casing found at the scene was also a 9 mm.

There was a guy arrested in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, November 2. He was extradited to Minnesota and booked into the Hennepin County Jail on Wednesday.

Court documents state Guy has a criminal history including third-degree burglary, fifth-degree drug possession, threats of violence, violation of a no-contact order, aiding and abetting check forgery, violation of another no-contact order and unlawful possession firearms.
