Geneva man faces multiple charges, including drug possession and animal abandonment

A Geneva man was arrested Thursday after a series of incidents that led to multiple charges, the Seneca Falls Police Department said.

Steven R. Kennedy, 35, was taken into custody at approximately 11:38 a.m. on Oct. 24 on an outstanding warrant. Authorities said the warrant was issued because of his failure to appear in court for violating a Class A protection order.

During the arrest, officers found a white substance on Kennedy that later tested positive for fentanyl, leading to a charge of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor. Kennedy was also charged with petit larceny for allegedly leaving a local business without paying for the goods.

Police also charged Kennedy in connection with another incident on Oct. 22 when he was found in possession of methamphetamine and accused of abandoning an animal. Authorities say Kennedy tied his dog to a tree near Balsley Road and left it unattended. The dog was not injured and was handed over to a dog trainer for care.

Kennedy was taken to the Seneca County Correctional Facility, where he is awaiting arraignment in Seneca County Central Court.

The Seneca Falls Police Department is urging anyone with information about criminal activity to contact local authorities.
