Juvenile arrested for groping women in Ferndale

FERNDALE, Mich. (FOX 2) – The minor is in custody at the request of the police groped several women in Ferndale.

Police said the suspect drove past the victims and touched them on a bicycle. The first incident happened in July. Other cases were reported in August and last week.

Another victim came forward Thursday and said the suspect also touched her in July, according to police.

“So we started to notice that there was a certain trend. There are three separate incidents where a person riding a bicycle has inappropriately touched women,” said Evan Alin of Ferndale Police. “Basically he hands over a woman’s head, and when he recognizes them, he turns around, grabs them and runs away from the scene.”

Earlier this week, police released photos of the suspect on his bicycle and warned people walking alone to be on the lookout for him. On Friday, he was recognized and taken into custody.

The suspect has been charged.

“We take these incidents very seriously and are committed to keeping our community safe. I thank the people who had the courage to report these incidents, as their courage was essential to this investigation. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to our investigators for their diligent work in moving this case forward,” said Ferndale Police Chief Dennis Amney.
