A woman pleads guilty to the murder of Asia Cowell, who was killed before testifying in the case

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — More than four years after a Granby High School girl was killed, a third person has gone on trial in connection with the crime.

17-year-old Asia Cowell was murdered in 2020. Police believe she was lured to a home in Norfolk, kidnapped, driven to Newport News, then shot and left in the woods.

Woman sentenced to life in prison for killing Granby High School student Asia Cowell

Three people were charged with murder.

Daja Fister pleaded guilty Monday in Newport News District Court. Fister is the sister of the man accused of raping Cowell. She was going to testify against him, but never got the chance to speak.

A Virginia woman has pleaded guilty to murdering a 17-year-old girl

Fister was just under 18 years old at the time of the murder. Judge Matthew Hoffman asked her, “Do you understand that this is a Class 2 felony and carries a minimum sentence of 20 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison if you are convicted as an adult?” Fister calmly replied, “Yes.”

Her sentencing is scheduled for February 7, 2025.

Two more have been charged in connection with Cowell’s death. According to court records, Devin Albritton received a 50-year sentence with 11 suspended, making him 39 years in prison. Albritton’s wife, Crystal Kaiser-Albritton, was sentenced to life in prison for Cowell’s murder.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney told the judge that Feaster cooperated with law enforcement and helped provide information implicating the Albrittons.

Her attorney said a doctor will testify at sentencing regarding her psychological evaluation.
